Community organizations in the Gaza Strip organized, on Saturday, an event to honor children amputated by the war, with the aim of raising their morale and highlighting their humanitarian conditions, amid calls for the provision of treatment, prosthetic limbs and the possibility of travel to complete medical care.
One of the participants in the event, which was held in the Bureij camp in the central Gaza Strip, said that the occasion comes in appreciation of the children who lost parts of their bodies during the war, stressing the need to stand by them and provide them with psychological, moral and material support, in light of what he described as the great failure of the international community and international organizations to meet their medical needs.
He added that many injured children do not find anyone to defend their right to treatment or help them travel to obtain appropriate medical care or prosthetic prosthesis, considering that they are paying the price for the continued absence of effective international action.
Another participant addressed a message to the international community in which he called for greater attention to the wounded, especially amputees, stressing that their basic needs were treatment, travel and the provision of prosthetics.
He said that the injured, despite their injuries, still hold on to their will and ambition, and seek to continue their lives and achieve their dreams, considering that the honor they received is a message that there are still those who remember them and care about their cause, which gives them a moral motivation to continue.
He stressed that the injured people hope that such community initiatives will be repeated, and that their case will not be lost on the attention of local institutions and concerned authorities.
A Humanitarian Gesture
Speaking at the event, one of its organizers said that its aim was to send a message to the international community about the devastation in the Gaza Strip, with a focus on children who had lost limbs during the war.
He added that the children who were injured are victims of the war, noting that the event aims to highlight their suffering and show their adherence to life and hope despite the injuries and disabilities they faced.
He also pointed out that the children will continue to contribute to the reconstruction of Gaza despite the harsh conditions they have been subjected to.
For his part, one of the participants praised the organizers of the event, considering it a humanitarian gesture towards the children affected during the war, calling for a better future for them by providing them with the necessary health care and support, and urging the international community to pay attention to their humanitarian situation.
An elder from Al-Bureij camp said that the initiative aims to convey a message of solidarity with the injured children, and to emphasize that they receive the attention of the local community, noting that the event seeks to alleviate their suffering and highlight their ability to continue living despite their disability.
He stressed that those in charge of the initiative are keen to support these children morally, convey their voice to the world, and advocate for the provision of the treatment and rehabilitation they need to help them overcome the effects of their injuries and continue their lives.
