Cape Verde national team coach Bubista enthusiastically welcomed the 2026 World Cup round of 32 match against defending champion Argentina at Miami Stadium, United States.
"We have a very strong relationship with Argentina. The opportunity to play against them is a gift for the players, the team, and all our people," Bubista said, as quoted on the official FIFA website on Friday.
Bubista is aware that his team is living an extraordinary "dream" at the 2026 World Cup. After all, his country is the only team that has not been eliminated from this major event as a debutant team, after three other debutants, namely Curacao, Jordan, and Uzbekistan, were eliminated early.
Cape Verde's run also surprised the world as they reached the round of 32 as group runners-up without a defeat, although they are still winless, having drawn three matches, including a 0-0 draw against Spain.
With a collection of three points, the African country is below Spain, who won Group H with seven points, and is above Uruguay and Saudi Arabia in third and fourth place.
"We're living a dream, but once we step onto the pitch, we don't even look at our opponents. We'll approach this match the same way we would against Spain or any other team," said Bubista.
