Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi appointed Deputy Regent of Sukoharjo Eko Sapto Purnomo as Acting Regent of Sukoharjo, after Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani was named a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission.
"We have appointed an acting officer, namely his deputy. That is in accordance with the law," he said, on the sidelines of the Coordination and Field Monitoring Meeting on Controlling Rice Field Conversion and Waste Management at the Gradhika Bhakti Praja Building.
According to statutory provisions, he said, the acting position is filled by the deputy regional head so that the administration of government can continue to run.
He ensured that public services in the Sukoharjo Regency Government would continue to run after the appointment of the acting regent.
"The acting officials were appointed yesterday, and there should be no vacancies. Our principle is that if there is law enforcement from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) or other parties in the district/city, public services must not be disrupted," he said.
