| Close Notification Strait of Hormuz |
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced late Saturday-Sunday that it was closing the Strait of Hormuz until further notice and until the end of US intervention in the region.
The Revolutionary Guard's navy said that "no ship will be allowed to pass."
She added in her statement: "In a previous announcement, we stated that foreign interference and the establishment of an illegal route for ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz will lead to our firm response, and will counter the process of increasing traffic in the strait.
She continued, saying: "Hours ago, these warnings were ignored, and at the instigation of foreigners, several ships attempted to move outside the approved route, ignoring our warnings and alerts regarding course correction and movement within the approved route."
She noted that one of the ships shut down its systems, thus endangering maritime security, and was subjected to warning shots and forced to stop.
The Revolutionary Guard Navy stressed that "if the enemy uses this incident as a pretext and commits any new violation against us, it will face a severe response and new enemy bases in the region will be targeted."
The statement was issued as the Washington Post, citing US officials, reported that the United States expects Iran to make an official announcement in the coming days regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping.
The newspaper stated that US officials expect Tehran to announce the complete opening of the strait, along with its pledge to stop targeting ships in this maritime area.
One official told the newspaper that Washington is currently holding talks with Iran, mediated by Qatar, with the aim of reaching a broader peace agreement, noting that the United States sees signs of Tehran's willingness to move in this direction.
Axios had previously quoted US officials as saying that Washington was demanding that Iran announce on Saturday the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and pledge to stop attacks on commercial ships.
These reports coincided with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi's visit to Oman and his holding talks regarding navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
