The Pharaohs qualified for the round of 16 after defeating Australia on penalties (4-2), following a 1-1 draw in both regular and extra time in the match held on Friday evening at Dallas Stadium as part of the round of 32 competitions.

Thanks to this victory, the Egyptian national team advanced two places in the world rankings to occupy the 24th position with 1597.04 points.

Thus, the Egyptian national team has advanced 5 places since the start of its journey in the 2026 World Cup, after achieving a victory over New Zealand, a draw with Belgium and Iran, and then a draw with Australia before securing qualification through penalty kicks.

This progress saw the Egyptian national team surpass a number of international teams in the rankings, including Ecuador and Paraguay from South America, Australia and South Korea from Asia, as well as Turkey, Ukraine, Russia, Sweden, Poland and Hungary from Europe.

The Pharaohs also advanced ahead of a number of African teams, most notably Nigeria, Algeria and Ivory Coast, as well as Canada, one of the countries of the tournament.

Egypt will face Argentina in the round of 16, after the defending champions qualified at the expense of Cape Verde, with the match scheduled for next Tuesday.
