Former WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight (minimum 90.7 kg) world champion Andy Ruiz Jr. announced his return to the elite international boxing stage after signing a major contract with the prestigious Matchroom Boxing promotion company.
"Ruiz is targeted to return to the ring on September 4 in Newark, New Jersey, with dangerous Polish boxer Damian Knyba as his most likely opponent," the WBC said on its official website, which was monitored.
Andy Ruiz reached the pinnacle of his career in June 2019, when he shocked the world by defeating Britain's Anthony Joshua in a seven-round bout at the iconic Madison Square Garden.
The victory propelled "The Destroyer" to become the first Mexican-American heavyweight world champion, although he lost the title a few months later in a rematch.
With his new big contract, Andy is writing an ambitious new chapter in his career with the firm goal of relaunching his career trajectory, breaking free from his hiatus, and attempting to reign supreme in the heavyweight division.
