The Mayor of Pontianak supports the holding of the world badminton tournament in his area

 





  Pontianak Mayor Edi Rusdi Kamtono supports the holding of two world badminton tournaments to be held at the A. Yani Integrated Sports Hall, Pontianak, West Kalimantan, namely the Indonesia International Challenge I 2026 and the Indonesia Masters Super 100 2026.

According to the Mayor, the presence of these two world-class badminton tournaments aligns with the Pontianak City Government's efforts to develop sports tourism . The two events also strengthen Pontianak's position as a host city for various international sporting events.

"Hosting the event certainly boosts Pontianak's branding . We hope this will continue to promote badminton in West Kalimantan," Edi said in Pontianak on Friday.

The 2026 Indonesia International Challenge I is scheduled to take place on August 25–30, 2026, while the 2026 Indonesia Masters Super 100 will be held on September 1–6.

The mayor estimates that hundreds of athletes from at least 15 countries will take part in the two world badminton championships.

Edi added that the presence of the two world badminton championships continues Pontianak's experience as a host of various international sporting events, including the 2026 Men's Volleyball Asian Champions League which was also held at the A. Yani Integrated Sports Hall last May.
