Google Cloud seeks to price services appropriately amid chip shortage

Google Cloud Indonesia Country Director Karim Siregar said the company is striving to set service prices at the right level amid global chip shortages and price increases.

"If we look at it holistically, this impacts all hyperscalers . So, it's certainly not just Google. We'll do our best to ensure the price is at the right level," he said at a media briefing in Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to him, global computing providers' capacity for the next one to two years is fully booked, so prices can be maintained.

However, Karim did not rule out the possibility of Google Cloud raising the prices of its services if chip prices continue to soar.

Meanwhile, Google Cloud Asia Pacific Vice President of Customer Engineering Moe Abdula said that the global technology industry is currently facing increasing demand for artificial intelligence accelerators such as Graphic Processing Units (GPUs) and Tensor Processing Units (TPUs).

Google Cloud is working to meet the demand for AI accelerators through partnerships and its own development efforts amidst a shortage of supporting components.

"We provide our own TPUs to our customers, and we also offer them GPUs. We are a strong partner with NVIDIA, and we provide them (GPUs). So there are no concerns or issues right now in working to meet that demand," Moe said.
