Hossam Hassan took over as head coach of the Egyptian national team in February 2024, succeeding Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria, who was dismissed from his position following the team's exit from the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations football tournament held in Ivory Coast.

The Pharaohs' coach has requested a monthly salary of 5 million Egyptian pounds in his new contract, as he currently receives only 1 million Egyptian pounds.
If the Egyptian Football Association approves Hossam Hassan's request, his annual salary will exceed one million US dollars (51 million Egyptian pounds).
