The academic explained: "The role of the flu vaccine is not limited to protecting against the disease, but also provides protection for people who suffer from cardiovascular diseases or have risk factors for them, especially the elderly. It reduces the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and sudden death."
He pointed out that influenza can lead to cardiovascular complications, even if it does not directly damage the heart muscle.
He added: "By causing systemic inflammation in the body, influenza contributes to destabilizing atherosclerotic plaques, which increases the risk of blood clot formation."
