Iraqi Electricity Minister Ali Saad Wahib announced the signing of an agreement with the American company General Electric to implement the comprehensive plan to secure energy in the country.
Wahib explained in a press statement that the signing ceremony took place in Washington under the auspices of Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi. This strategic step aims to increase power generation capacity, develop the national transmission network, and enhance energy security in Iraq.
The agreement includes the implementation of an integrated national program based on key pillars, including achieving synchronization between fuel supply and the addition of new production capacities, the establishment and expansion of power generation stations, the development and strengthening of the national transport network, as well as mobilizing and structuring the necessary financing for the implementation of the projects.
He stressed that this agreement represents an important step within the Iraqi government’s vision to address the challenges of the electricity sector, by linking the addition of generation capacities, securing fuel, developing transmission networks and providing financing, which enhances the stability of the electrical system, raises the efficiency of energy supply and contributes to improving the level of service provided to citizens.
