The Indonesian Olympic Committee has tightened regulations for sports participating independently to compete in the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
"The branches will be reviewed again because we want to ensure that whoever goes can perform optimally and safely," said KOI Chairman Raja Sapta Oktohari to the media crew at the 2026 KOI Extraordinary Members Meeting.
He explained that his team had not yet finalized the list of sports branches that would be going to the Asian Games independently, but based on previous experience, many sports branches would apply to go to Japan independently.
Oktohari said that branches that are going independently will be reviewed again from various aspects such as readiness, especially related to records or opportunities for achievement.
"So, we first need to ensure that logistics are met, that accommodations can be accommodated, and that the review team's assessment of their performance is accurate," he said.
According to him, the high level of interest in participating in independent sports must be matched by the accommodation capacity available in Aichi Nagoya. Accommodation for Asian Games participants is limited and spread across several locations.
