The Indonesian Olympic Committee has aligned the schedule for the organization's general chairman election congress to follow the Olympic cycle through the 2026 KOI Extraordinary Members Meeting .
KOI Secretary General Wijaya Noeradi told the media after the meeting in Jakarta on Monday that the decision meant the congress, which was supposed to be held in 2027, would be moved to March 2029, or after the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
He explained that the KOI Bylaws (ART) only regulate the possibility of postponing the congress for one year, but the Members' Meeting considered it necessary to make an exception so that the management election schedule could be aligned with the four-year Olympic cycle.
According to him, the schedule alignment is based on common practices in the international Olympic movement.
Many international sports organizations and national federations hold congresses or board elections after the Olympics so that the elected board can immediately draw up programs for the next Olympic cycle.
He gave the example of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) which also held its presidential elections after the 2024 Paris Olympics, namely in 2025. A similar pattern was also applied by various international sports federations.
