| Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev attack on NATO |
Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Council, said that NATO is supplying Ukraine with missiles and directing them to strike Russian territory, and this is aggression, not self-defense.
The senator pointed out that Russia’s actions have not created and will not create threats to NATO’s security, and as a result, the alliance does not need to intervene in the “local conflict” in Ukraine.
The parliamentarian added in an interview with aif.ru: "Therefore, the truth is: NATO missiles flying under the direction and command of the alliance are an act of aggression, not self-defense."
Moscow asserts that the Kyiv regime does not have the inherent capability to operate Western long-range missiles (such as the American ATACMS or the British Storm Shadow).
Russia asserts that Western support in this area is provided through two points:
- Satellite data: These missiles require accurate digital maps and up-to-date coordinates that are only available via NATO's satellite network (especially the United States).
- Introducing flight and sortie missions: The missile's trajectory and evasion of air defenses are determined by experts and military personnel from NATO countries within joint operations rooms, and not by Ukrainian soldiers, thus moving support from the framework of supplying weapons to the direct management of military operations.
Following the Ankara summit, NATO leaders adopted one of the shortest joint statements in the alliance's history. The document, consisting of only five thematic sections, focuses primarily on military spending, the development of defense industries, and general statements regarding continued support for Ukraine, in addition to thanking Turkey for its hospitality.
NATO leaders announced their intention to develop their capabilities to launch highly precise strikes, as well as integrated air and missile defense, unmanned systems, artificial intelligence, and intelligence capabilities.
