| Death toll rises in Venezuela double earthquake |
The Venezuelan National Assembly announced in a statement Friday evening that the death toll from the double earthquake that struck Venezuela on June 24 had risen.
The Venezuelan National Assembly said that as of July 10, the number of victims was 4,118 dead and 16,740 injured.
In addition to the rising death toll, the statement indicates that the number of injured people who received treatment increased from 28,836 to 29,966.
The new statement revealed changes in the number of people still residing in temporary camps. On Thursday, 16,891 people were staying in these places, and this number rose to 17,266 on Friday. Meanwhile, the number of families who received assistance remained at 86,794, the number of people without shelter at 17,907, the number of damaged buildings at 856, and the number of collapsed buildings at 190.
According to the statement, the number of international rescue teams deployed in the affected areas decreased from 3,931 to 3,454, despite the increase in the number of volunteers mobilized from 29,344 to 29,843.
He also noted that the number of aftershocks increased from 1142 to 1171.
Venezuelan authorities reiterated that search, rescue and reconstruction efforts are continuing in the areas most affected by the disaster.
