Kuwait protests to Iran after oil tanker attack; Tehran announces strikes on US bases

 The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry summoned the Iranian ambassador to the country on Tuesday to protest what it described as Iran’s targeting of the Kuwaiti oil tanker “Kifan” while it was crossing the Strait of Hormuz on Monday.

The ministry said in a statement that a number of the tanker's crew members were injured in the attack.

This comes at a time when the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that it had targeted US military sites in Kuwait and Bahrain, as part of an ongoing escalation between Tehran and Washington.

The Revolutionary Guard said in a statement carried by the official Iranian news agency (IRNA) that it targeted two air defense systems and a radar station at two different American sites in Bahrain, and also targeted missile defense systems, radars and satellite receiving systems in Kuwait.

The statement added that “this radar destruction” will make “the enemy prepare for more decisive and powerful waves of drone and missile attacks.”

In the same context, the Iranian army reported that it targeted three major US bases in Kuwait with suicide drones, including administrative buildings and directional antennas at Arifjan base, a helicopter parking area at Al-Adira camp, and a soldiers' residence building at Ahmed Al-Jaber Air Base, according to Iranian television.

These announcements coincided with the US military's announcement of a new wave of strikes, the tenth in a row, targeting Iranian military command centers, naval capabilities, and missile and drone launch sites.

In a related development, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy announced that a number of electricity generation units were taken out of service, after several power and water desalination plants were attacked on Monday evening, which it said came “for the fourth day in a row” in light of what it described as “Iranian aggression.”

The ministry added that the attacks caused fires in a number of its facilities, stressing that emergency teams, in coordination with the general fire force and security authorities, were able to control the fires, while continuing to assess the damage and implement plans to repair and rehabilitate the facilities.
