Spain's young star Lamine Jamal confirmed that he was saddened by the anti-Islam chants, but stressed at the same time that he does not regret choosing to represent the Spanish national team instead of Morocco.
Jamal explained in his statements that those chants that were made during the friendly match between Egypt and Spain were regrettable and disturbing, but they are not related to his international decision, saying that the matter was not directed at a particular people or country, but rather at the content of the chants themselves, noting that what happened affected many Muslims inside and outside Spain.
The young star added that he realizes that what was said did not represent the entire fan base, but rather a limited part of the stands, stressing that everyone has a different background and upbringing that is reflected in their behavior.
Jamal settled the debate about his international future, stressing: "I am with Spain. I chose this team and I could have played for any side, but I am happy with my decision and I will continue with them," considering "La Roja" to be one of the top contenders to win the 2026 World Cup.
He also revealed the players who most caught his attention in the tournament, choosing Argentina’s Lionel Messi, Brazil’s Vinicius Junior, and Morocco’s Ismail Saibari.
The Spanish national team qualified for the round of 32 as the leader of its group, and is preparing to face Austria in a new test within its journey in the 2026 World Cup.
