Deputy Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Lodewijk F. Paulus assessed that transactional political practices, the strengthening of oligarchy, and low political morality are still challenges in national political life.
According to him, these challenges need to be faced by building a political system that is moral, just, and oriented towards the interests of the people.
He said international geopolitical developments also present increasingly complex challenges, requiring Indonesia to have a strong political system, quality democracy, and governance capable of maintaining national stability while accelerating development.
"Therefore, Indonesia needs a strong political system, quality democracy, and governance that can maintain national stability while accelerating development," he said.
Lodewijk said that politics must be a means to realize public interests, welfare and welfare, not just the interests of certain groups.
He also invited Muslims to actualize the prophetic spirit in political life as part of efforts to build substantive democracy and support the realization of the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045.
According to him, high-cost transactional political practices, negative and black campaigns, the strengthening of oligarchy and dynastic politics, and low political literacy and morality are still homework in strengthening democracy in Indonesia.
He hopes that religious scholars and community organizations will continue to play a role as strategic partners in maintaining national values and providing warnings if deviations occur in the life of the nation and state.
The congress was also attended by Deputy Chairman of the MUI Buya Anwar Abbas, Secretary General of the MUI Buya Amirsyah Tambunan, provincial MUI leaders, leaders of national-level Islamic community organizations, and representatives of universities and Islamic boarding schools.
