Megawati proposed that the RI-Timor Leste cooperation involve BRIN and BPIP

The 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, proposed strengthening relations between Indonesia and Timor Leste through cooperation involving the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency.

Megawati conveyed this in a bilateral meeting with Timor Leste Prime Minister (PM) Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao in Palm Springs, Dili, Friday.

In a written statement received, Megawati outlined three concrete cooperation frameworks she proposed to strengthen the foundation of future relations between the two countries.

The first is maritime cooperation and climate change through BRIN. As fellow archipelagic nations, according to Megawati, Indonesia and Timor Leste face the real threat of climate change, including El Niño phenomena and the risk of drought.

He also sent a maritime expert, who is also the chairman of the DPP PDI Perjuangan, Prof. Dr. Rokhmin Dahuri to formulate joint anticipatory steps.
