Microsoft halts production of two of its most popular computers

An informed source told Windows Central that Microsoft has officially discontinued production of the Surface Go 4 tablet and the Surface Laptop Go 3 laptop.

The website noted that Microsoft has no plans to restock or release these two types of computers in its official stores, which means abandoning the affordable computer category within its product range.

According to the website, the company is currently focusing on its higher-priced devices, such as the Surface Pro series with 12 and 13-inch screens, the Surface Laptop series with 13, 13.8 and 15-inch sizes, in addition to a luxury model under development called the Surface Laptop Ultra.

Sources revealed that the company was considering launching a Surface Go 5 powered by an affordable Qualcomm processor, but it canceled the project due to the lack of interest from institutional and corporate customers in this type of processor, which represents a major obstacle, given that the Surface Go 4 was primarily marketed as a commercial device.

In an attempt to bridge the gap, Microsoft recently added lower-priced versions of its 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop, but these devices have 8GB of RAM and are priced starting at $849 and $949 respectively.

Instead of its budget-friendly devices, Microsoft began promoting the Dell XPS 13 as a competitor to the Apple MacBook Neo, with added features such as Windows Hello facial recognition, a touchscreen, and a backlit keyboard.

The specifications of the basic version of this computer include an Intel Core 5 320 processor, 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM, a 512GB SSD, and the device weighs about 1 kg.
