Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid emphasized that the eradication of online gambling or judol must be carried out comprehensively by targeting all parts of the ecosystem.
"Eradicating online gambling must be comprehensive. It's not enough, and it shouldn't stop at just cutting off access to the site, but rather the entire ecosystem," he said at the OJK Banking Forum 2026 at the Bank Indonesia Office Complex.
According to him, efforts to eradicate gambling should include cutting off access to gambling sites and content, taking action against gambling-related accounts, improving early detection, and strengthening collaboration between relevant stakeholders.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital has blocked access to approximately 3.7 million websites and content related to judol from October 20, 2024, to July 12, 2026.
Meutya said that blocking sites needs to be accompanied by efforts to cut off the flow of funds related to gambling activities.
"The site shutdown must also be accompanied by the amputation of the online gambling ecosystem's neck , namely the holding accounts. We consider holding accounts to be the neck, and of course, this is what must also be eradicated," he said.
Therefore, collaboration with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and banks must be increased in taking action against accounts used to store funds related to gambling.
