An informed source told the Moroccan newspaper "Hespress" details of the crash of a light aircraft, while it was participating in efforts to extinguish a fire in the Maamoura forest in the Skhirat province of Temara city.
The same source explained that, contrary to what has been circulated in the past few hours, the light aircraft used for fire monitoring, of the "CN-AZV" type, belongs to the Royal Gendarmerie, and not to the Civil Protection.
The same source confirmed that the accident resulted in the death of the pilot, who belonged to the Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie, adding that "around 5:10, a fire broke out in the aforementioned area," before efforts to extinguish it were immediately undertaken, suggesting that "the plane crash likely occurred around 5:30."
The source also confirmed that the aircraft was conducting reconnaissance operations as part of the efforts to combat the aforementioned fire, which refutes what was rumored about it being a firefighting aircraft.
It should be noted that the "CN-AZV" aircraft is an upgraded version of the well-known "Air Tractor" agricultural aircraft, powered by a turboprop engine and used specifically for fighting forest fires. It belongs to and is operated by the Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie.
The online newspaper "Hespress" was unable to obtain detailed information from the National Agency for Water and Forests regarding the details of the incident.
The newspaper source indicated that the fire had consumed three hectares of the Maamoura forest belonging to the Skhirat-Temara prefecture.
