Moscow and Tehran discussed ways to develop cooperation in key sectors including energy, oil and gas, industry, and the development of international transport corridors.
This came during talks held yesterday in Tehran between Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilov and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
The Russian Energy Ministry said in a statement that Tsevilev, who also serves as co-chair of the Russian-Iranian Joint Commission, held talks with the Iranian president during a working visit to Tehran.
Opportunities for cooperation between the two countries within the framework of international and regional organizations were also discussed, most notably BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, the Caspian Economic Union, and the Gas Exporting Countries Forum.
Tsvilev affirmed the Russian side’s commitment to the strategic partnership with Iran, despite external challenges, reviewing the results of talks he held with the Iranian Ministers of Oil and Energy, and announcing the formation of specialized working groups for existing projects, with the aim of coordinating efforts and monitoring the progress of implementation.
The Iranian president affirms the priority of relations with Russia
For his part, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stressed that developing relations with Russia remains one of Iran’s foreign policy priorities and enjoys continuous support from the highest levels in the country.
Pezeshkian specifically pointed out that developing scientific, industrial, economic and practical cooperation can alleviate the pressure of sanctions and contribute to establishing a more just world order.
