The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) announced the extension of the suspension of Russian athletes from participating in international championships, following a meeting of its council held via video conference.

The federation's president, Sebastian Coe, confirmed that the previous decision regarding the sanctions remains in effect, noting that these measures are aimed at "protecting the integrity and fairness of competitions."

This decision comes amid continued restrictions on Russian sport for years, despite some previous developments, including the lifting of sanctions on the Russian Athletics Federation in March 2023, after a three-year "trial" period under a special conditions program.

The return of the Russian Federation's membership was previously recognized conditionally, with 34 specific conditions set to ensure the implementation of anti-doping reforms within the Russian athletics system.

Despite these steps, the suspension remains in place regarding the participation of athletes in international tournaments, pending any future decisions that may change their status on the global stage.
