The Portuguese Football Federation has announced the appointment of Jorge Jesus as the new coach of the national team, following the disappointing exit of the "Sailors" squad from the 2026 World Cup.
The Portuguese national team wrote on its X platform account on Friday, "A new journey begins today. Welcome to the national team, Mr. Jorge Jesus.
The veteran Portuguese coach will replace Spaniard Roberto Martinez, who left his post after Portugal's 1-0 loss to Spain in the round of 16 of the World Cup.
Jesus, 71, has coached several Portuguese clubs, including Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.
Last season, Jesus took charge of the Saudi Al-Nassr team and led them to win the local league title.
