The Indonesian Basketball Association is pushing for an increase in the world ranking of the Indonesian national basketball team through participation in international tournaments such as the FIBA 3x3 Challengers Batam 2026 in the Riau Islands.
Nirmala Dewi, Secretary General of the Indonesian Basketball Association , said in Batam on Saturday that participation in the event was part of Perbasi's long-term efforts to improve Indonesia's ranking through the accumulation of points from official competitions of the International Basketball Federation.
"If we want to reach the Olympics, as Perbasi dreams, we need to accumulate a lot of points. These points can be earned by hosting and participating in tournaments like this. Winning certainly gives us more points, but competing still earns points," said Nirmala.
He stated that Perbasi fielded three teams at the FIBA 3x3 Challengers Batam to allow more athletes to gain experience and contribute to Indonesia's points tally.
According to him, the results of a match in a tournament are not the main measure of the success of athlete development.
