Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune revealed the latest developments in the case of the Algerian-American child Wassim, who was assaulted in Boston on the sidelines of the 2026 World Cup.

According to the information circulating, the Algerian child, Wassim, aged 14, who was born in Boston and holds both Algerian and American citizenship, went to the fan zone with a number of his friends to watch the match, and he was wearing the Algerian national team jersey.

The data indicates that the child was physically assaulted after the Dutch team scored a goal in the match, as he found himself alone after his friends left him, before being assaulted by a group of people.

The Algerian international channel "AL24 News" reported that "the incident of assault against the Algerian child Wassim, following the Morocco-Netherlands match in the 2026 World Cup, sparked widespread outrage, amid official action from the Algerian consulate and the American authorities to follow up on the case."

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune explained in a statement to the press after performing his electoral duty in the legislative elections that the child Wassim is not one of the visitors to the United States to follow the competition, but rather resides there permanently and holds both Algerian and American nationalities.

The president confirmed that the Algerian authorities are closely monitoring the case, both from a health and legal standpoint, adding that the child's health condition is reassuring after he left the hospital.

Abdelmadjid Tebboune indicated that he had contacted the Algerian ambassador to the United States, Sabri Boukadoum, who is following up on the case on the ground and overseeing the various procedures in coordination with the American justice and police authorities to ensure the smooth progress of the case.

At the end of his remarks, the President announced that the Minister of Sports, Walid Sadi, had extended an invitation to the child Wassim to attend the Algerian national team’s match against the Swiss national team, scheduled for today, confirming that the fans would see him in the stadium stands.
