The East Java Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Board has officially assigned the Chairman of PWNU East Java, KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz, also known as Gus Kikin, to run as a candidate for General Chair of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board at the 35th Congress to be held in Jombang.
Deputy Rais Syuriyah PWNU East Java KH Abdul Matin in Surabaya, Tuesday, said the decision was the result of internal discussions with the board and not based on Gus Kikin's personal wishes.
He explained that the decision was made through a number of meetings of the Syuriyah Daily Board and Tanfidziyah PWNU East Java which were carried out in stages, followed by the formation of a small team to finalize the nomination proposal.
According to him, before the decision was made, PWNU also asked for the views of Nahdlatul Ulama branch boards (PCNU) throughout East Java.
As a result, as many as 45 PCNU in the province expressed support for the assignment of Gus Kikin as a candidate for General Chairperson of PBNU.
"Alhamdulillah, all PCNU in East Java have agreed to be in one line to nominate Kiai Abdul Hakim Mahfudz as a candidate for General Chairperson of PBNU," he said.
Abdul Matin emphasized that the nomination was based on a number of organizational considerations.
One of them, Gus Kikin is considered to have a commitment to return the direction of the jam'iyah to be guided by the Qanun Asasi formulated by the founder of Nahdlatul Ulama, Hadratussyaikh KH Hasyim Asy'ari.
In addition, Gus Kikin is said to have a vision of building a calmer organizational governance, strengthening Islamic brotherhood and Nahdliyah brotherhood, and maintaining the unity of NU members in carrying out organizational programs.
