The Ministry of Communication and Digital has normalized access to the Reddit platform for users in Indonesia after the online forum platform provider complied with applicable regulations.
The Director General of Digital Space Supervision at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Alexander Sabar, stated that normalization of access to the Reddit platform was carried out after an assessment of compliance with the provisions.
"The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs approved the normalization of access to reddit.com after conducting a hearing and reviewing compliance with applicable regulations in Indonesia," he said when asked for confirmation.
Based on the results of the Ministry of Communication and Digital's investigation, he explained that the Reddit platform has implemented geoblocking for the Indonesian region, restricted access, and removed content related to gambling and pornography, as well as other illegal content.
After normalizing access, the Ministry of Communication and Digital reminded Reddit platform providers that they are required to register their business entities as Private Electronic System Providers (PSE) and comply with applicable regulations in Indonesia.
"If illegal content is discovered in Indonesia in the future, the Ministry of Communication and Information will take appropriate action in accordance with applicable regulations," said Alexander Sabar.
