The press office of the Russian corporation Rostec announced the extraction of a unique piece of amber weighing 1.5 kilograms in the Kaliningrad region.

This piece is unique because it is a rare combination of shiny transparent amber and opaque amber, is about 40 million years old, and was named "The Jubilee" to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Kaliningrad region.

According to the office's statement, this piece of amber was formed approximately 40 million years ago when resin from an ancient pine tree flowed into its trunk. After filling the tree's cavity, the resin gradually hardened, preserving its shape and internal structure. It is precisely because of this process that a unique, natural mold of ancient wood can be seen within this amber.

According to Mikhail Zatsipin, the general director of the Amber Complex, this piece of amber, weighing over one kilogram, is unique. Such discoveries are rare; for example, in 2025, specialists found 13 unique pieces of amber, and this season's find is the first of its kind.

He says: "Each specimen of this type is subject to a thorough examination by the state, after which a decision is made regarding its fate. These unique exhibits are added to the collection of the Kaliningrad Amber Complex Museum, which ensures the preservation of the national heritage for future generations. He notes that some of these pieces are offered at public auction due to their rarity."

It is reported that in 2021, the largest piece of amber weighing 2.374 kilograms was found in the Kaliningrad region and was named the "record holder".

It should be noted that the next public auction, in which these pieces may be offered, is scheduled to take place in the fall of 2026.
