World number one tennis player Aryna Sabalenka overcame Jelena Ostapenko's resistance to advance to the last 16 of Wimbledon 2025 after winning 6-4, 6-4 in a third-round match that lasted for 1 hour and 32 minutes at the All England Club, London.
The top seed put in a solid performance despite coming under pressure late in the second set when Ostapenko reduced the deficit after Sabalenka had taken a 4-1 lead. However, she maintained her composure to close out the match in straight sets.
"I think in a match like this, there are a few key moments. I feel like it all comes down to mentality," Sabalenka said after the match, as quoted by the WTA.
"I'm very happy because mentally I was very strong and very focused today. I'm happy to have closed out this match in straight sets," he added.
The victory over Ostapenko took Sabalenka to the second week of a Grand Slam for the 15th consecutive time, dating back to Wimbledon 2021. Overall, this is the 20th time she has reached the round of 16 at a major.
