The official spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition forces in Yemen announced on Monday that air defenses had intercepted ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis towards the southern region of the Kingdom.
This announcement came after the Houthi group accused Riyadh of bombing Sanaa International Airport, which is under its control, while the internationally recognized Yemeni government explained that it carried out those raids to prevent an Iranian plane from landing at the airport.
In response, the Houthi military spokesman confirmed a large-scale military operation targeting Abha International Airport in southern Saudi Arabia using ballistic missiles and drones, describing the attack as retaliation for airstrikes on Sana'a airport. In a televised statement, the spokesman warned all airlines against flying over Saudi airspace.
“The Yemeni Armed Forces affirm that they are determined to take the right stance in repelling the aggression and lifting the unjust blockade on our country. In this context, they warn all airlines against crossing Saudi Arabian airspace, and they must take our warnings seriously until the blockade on Sana’a International Airport is lifted.”
