Senegalese national team midfielder Habib Diarra expressed his disappointment after his team was eliminated from the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup after losing 2-3 to Belgium.
At Lumen Field Stadium, Seattle, Washington, United States, , Senegal had taken a 2-0 lead over Belgium, one of which was through Diarra's goal in the first half.
"We're disappointed. We had a good first half, but it wasn't enough. A match lasts 90 minutes, and (this result) leaves us devastated," Diarra said after the match, as quoted on FIFA's official website.
Diarra opened the scoring for Senegal in the 25th minute, converting Ismaila Sarr's header from Sadio Mane's cross, which hit the post but left goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois sprawled on the grass.
The score remained 1-0 for Senegal until both teams went into the dressing room and six minutes into the second half the Teranga Lions were able to increase their lead through Sarr's two-touch volley.
Senegal held on to a 2-0 lead for a long time before the break in the 86th minute when Romelu Lukaku beat goalkeeper Mory Diaw with a simple tap-in from Thomas Meunier's cross.
