Sinner avoids drama to advance to the third round of Wimbledon

Jannik Sinner avoided a repeat of the five-set drama of the first round by recording a 7-6(4), 7-6(2), 6-4 victory in the second round of Wimbledon on Centre Court, All England Club, Wednesday, over Nuno Borges to advance to the third round of Wimbledon.

The reigning Wimbledon champion raised his game in key moments to set up a third-round meeting with Jenson Brooksby.

"It's great to win. I've now had two wins this week," Sinner was quoted as saying by the ATP.

Playing for two hours and 32 minutes, Sinner took his Grand Slam main draw match win count to 95 and surpassed Nicola Pietrangeli as the Italian player with the most wins.

The world No. 1 is bidding to become the 10th man in the Open era to defend his Wimbledon title, two years after his arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz joined the list.

After struggling to beat Miomir Kecmanovic, Sinner was much more consistent against the world number 48.
