Six Palestinians were killed and others were injured on Thursday as a result of attacks carried out by the Israeli army on various areas in the Gaza Strip, as part of the ongoing violations of the ceasefire agreement in effect since October 10, 2015.
Local media and medical sources reported that one citizen was killed and three others were injured in an Israeli drone strike on a vehicle near the Abbas intersection, west of Gaza City.
She noted that a citizen and a young woman were killed when an Israeli march targeted a group of citizens near Al-Hilu land in the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip, pointing out that a young man was killed by the occupation army’s bullets east of Deir al-Balah city in the central Gaza Strip.
She stated that two martyrs were killed and citizens were injured this morning, in an Israeli bombing that targeted the Batn al-Samin and al-Hawouz areas west of Khan Yunis city in the southern Gaza Strip.
Israeli forces continue to demolish buildings, carry out artillery shelling, and fire shots and shells in various parts of the Gaza Strip.
According to the latest statistics issued by the Ministry of Health yesterday, Wednesday, the Israeli attacks have resulted in the martyrdom of 1,092 Palestinians and the injury of 3,507 others since the ceasefire agreement came into effect.
These developments on the ground coincide with the start of a new round of talks in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
One of the airstrikes targeted the car of Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem, according to a security source in Gaza. Qassem was not in the car at the time of the attack, but his bodyguard was killed.
Announcement of an assassination
For its part, the Israeli army and the General Security Service (Shin Bet), in a joint statement on Thursday, announced the assassination of a Palestinian military official named Waheed Abu Salam, in an air raid that targeted the southern Gaza Strip last Tuesday.
The statement claimed that Abu Salam had previously served as “commander of the western company in the Khan Younis area,” without specifying which Palestinian faction he belonged to. Both sides also alleged that the target had recently been working on “advancing military plans, including attempts to refurbish weapons for use against Israeli forces operating in the area.”
In contrast, there was no immediate comment from Palestinian factions in Gaza to confirm or deny the Israeli claims.
Visit of a UN official
In a related context, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric announced that the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Palestine, Ramiz Alekperov, has begun a two-day visit to the Gaza Strip.
He explained in statements carried by the United Nations Media Site that Al-Akbarov, who also serves as the Deputy Special Coordinator of the United Nations Peace Process in the Middle East, visited a team from the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), which works to assess and reduce explosive hazards.
He noted that Al-Akbarov, accompanied by representatives of the United Nations Development Programme, visited the Firas market site for waste disposal to assess solid waste management efforts. This market has been used as a temporary waste dump since 2023, after municipal crews lost access to the two main waste dumps in Gaza located near the eastern border of the Strip.
Dujarric said that, since April, thanks to a project supported by the Humanitarian Fund for the Occupied Palestinian Territory and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme, teams have been able to move about 300,000 metric tons of solid waste from that random site to another site further away from the people’s shelters. He noted that access to the sewage dumps located east of what is known as the “yellow line” remains prohibited.
He further explained that Al-Akbarov then met with UNICEF staff to discuss ongoing efforts to reduce the spread of rodents and parasites, and also met with representatives of the World Health Organization to discuss ongoing medical evacuations, noting that the medical referral route to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, remains closed, hindering efforts to expand medical evacuations from Gaza.
