Spain captain wins 2026 World Cup Golden Ball

Spanish midfielder and national team captain Rodri was named the Golden Ball winner, the award for best player at the 2026 World Cup, after leading La Roja to victory in the tournament.

The award was confirmed after Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the final at the New York Stadium, New Jersey, United States on Monday WIB.

Rodri was a central figure in Spain's success in winning its second world title. Although he did not score throughout the tournament, the Manchester City midfielder consistently played as a tempo control and ball control, which is a hallmark of La Roja's game.

"This team is extraordinary. We are two-time world champions. It was a very difficult achievement, perhaps the most difficult in football. We achieved it by beating a team as strong as Argentina," Rodri.
