Switzerland advanced to the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup after defeating Algeria 2-0 in the round of 32 match at BC Place, Vancouver.
Breel Embolo opened the scoring for Switzerland in the 10th minute after converting Johan Manzambi's cross, before Dan Ndoye doubled the lead in the 46th minute to seal victory for Murat Yakin's side.
Manzambi was once again the difference-maker for Switzerland. His run from the left side of the Algerian defense led to the first goal, which Embolo finished from close range.
Algeria, led by Riyad Mahrez, tried to escape the pressure and made several attacks down the wings, but the Swiss defense was disciplined and maintained their lead until halftime.
Switzerland then immediately punished Algeria's lapses early in the second half. A poor clearance from the Algerian defense allowed the ball to fall to Ndoye, who fired home to make it 2-0.
