Colombia advanced to the knockout stage, or the round of 32, undefeated and conceding just once. Meanwhile, Switzerland also remained undefeated and demonstrated their character as a disciplined and difficult-to-break-down team.
However, ahead of the match, Switzerland was overshadowed by concerns about the fitness of a number of its key players.
