The Chief of Staff of the Libyan Army in the west of the country, Lieutenant General Salah al-Din al-Namroush, said that unifying the military institution is the option for protecting the country and its stability, during his meeting with Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar in Sirte.
The participants also discussed mechanisms to support members of the military establishment, enhance their capabilities, and ensure their administrative and financial rights. They also authorized the chiefs of staff of the various branches to hold monthly meetings with their respective departments to strengthen coordination and improve institutional performance.
The Libyan Presidential Council welcomed the Sirte meeting, considering it an important step towards unifying the military establishment. The Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, Saddam Haftar, praised the atmosphere of the meeting, emphasizing the continued efforts to complete the army's unification and expressing appreciation for the support of the United States, represented by the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) for this process.
The Sirte meeting is the first meeting held inside Libya between Chiefs of Staff Khaled Haftar and Salah al-Din al-Namroush, following a series of meetings held abroad, as part of local and international efforts to end the division and unify the military establishment.
