The Lakers signed Williams to a one-year, $3 million contract

The Los Angeles Lakers have strengthened their forward depth by reaching a one-year, $3 million contract with free agent Ziaire Williams, who will play for the Brooklyn Nets for the 2025-2026 season.

The NBA website stated Wednesday that the Lakers have officially acquired the player for the 2026-2027 season for a value equivalent to more than IDR 49 billion.

The recruitment is part of the team's efforts to increase options in the wing sector after actively evaluating the team composition during the summer transfer window.

Williams spent last season with the Brooklyn Nets. In 44 games, the 24-year-old averaged 10.2 points per game (ppg) and played 22.9 minutes per game.

This productivity was one of the reasons the Lakers decided to bring him to Los Angeles.

The 6-foot-6 player previously began his NBA career with the Memphis Grizzlies after being selected 10th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft.

During his league career, Williams was known as a versatile player who could play in several wing positions and had good defensive abilities.

Williams' presence is expected to strengthen the Lakers' rotation, particularly in providing squad depth in the forward department, which is one of the team's focus areas for improvement ahead of the new season.

With the addition of Ziaire Williams, the Los Angeles Lakers hope to gain additional energy, versatility, and contributions on both ends of the court to enhance their chances of competing for the 2026-2027 NBA championship.
