The Trump administration imposes a 25% tariff on imports from Brazil

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that, at the direction of President Donald Trump, US authorities will impose tariffs of 25% on most imports from Brazil.

Rubio wrote in a post on the social media platform X: "President Trump has directed the Office of the United States Trade Representative to impose tariffs of 25% on most Brazilian imports. There should be no doubt about the motives behind this move: President Lula (referring to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva) and his government conducted their negotiations with the United States in bad faith."

The US Secretary of State noted that Da Silva's economic policy is "bad for Americans and bad for Brazilians alike."

Rubio concluded his statement by saying: "Over the past year, Lula has preferred to put his personal ego above reaching an agreement that serves the interests of the Brazilian people, and these tariffs are the price he is paying for that."
