The U18 women's national basketball team is finalizing its strategy ahead of the 2026 FIBA Asia Cup

The Indonesian U18 women's national basketball team conducted training with a focus on refining their strategies for facing opponents ahead of the FIBA U18 Women's Asia Cup 2026 Division B in Bangkok, Thailand, on July 13-19.

Entering the final week of the training camp, the coach no longer made many changes to the material that had been provided since the SEABA qualifying round in June in the Philippines where Indonesia finished runner-up.

"Of course, this preparation is more focused on perfecting the things we've implemented in previous qualifications," said the head coach of the U18 women's national basketball team, Fredy, when met during a training session in South Tangerang on Tuesday.

"So we didn't change much, we just tidied up a few things that needed to be tidied up based on the evaluation of yesterday's qualifying time."

According to Fredy, the training program is now directed at perfecting the details of the game based on the results of the previous evaluation.

Fredy said the focus of the training included perfecting defensive organization and attack patterns so the players could match the physical superiority of opponents at the Asian level.

He believes that most of Indonesia's potential opponents are taller, so the players must get used to facing this situation before competing in Bangkok.

"We will focus on dealing with situations that are much bigger than ours," he said.

Fredy said Indonesia still has the capital in the form of the players' speed and ability to shoot from various position
Therefore, the coaching team will combine aggressive defense with fast play when attacking.

"I see a lot of talent in Indonesia, with many fast and good shooting players. On defense , we'll probably be very aggressive, but on offense , we'll take advantage of every shooting space we have," said Fredy.

To provide a closer picture of the match conditions, the coaching team also tried to hold trial matches against teams with similar physical characteristics to Indonesia's potential opponents.

Fredy said the coaching team is still communicating with several teams in Jakarta to hold scrimmages on Thursday and Friday before leaving for Thailand on Saturday.

"If possible, we will try out with a similarly large team so we can get a feel for facing a bigger opponent there," he said.

The Indonesian U18 women's national basketball team began training camp on Monday (July 7). Twelve players are being prepared to compete in the 2026 FIBA U18 Women's Asia Cup Division B.

Indonesia is in Group A alongside India, Thailand, and Oman. Group B includes Samoa, the Cook Islands, Lebanon, and Kazakhstan.

To maintain their chances of promotion to Division A, the Red and White team must finish in the top three in the group stage to advance to the quarter-finals.
