Iran’s Supreme Leader’s military advisor, Mohsen Rezaei, was quoted by state television on Friday as saying that Iran would enter a “phase of full-scale attack” if the US strikes continued for more than “two to three days.”
According to the same source, Rezaei said that “Iran will no longer be satisfied with merely responding, and no borders will be safe” from its attacks.
The US military announced on Friday evening that it was carrying out a new series of strikes on Iran for the seventh night in a row.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said via its X platform that the new strikes began “at 19:00 GMT.” It added that they “aim to continue degrading Iran’s military capabilities.”
Iranian media reported hearing three explosions in the city of Sirik, in Hormozgan province (south), following the United States' announcement of a new wave of attacks.
Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency reported on Friday evening that explosions were heard in the city overlooking the Strait of Hormuz after Washington announced the start of a new attack.
For its part, Hormozgan province announced that the recent US attack on Sirik did not result in any casualties or material damage, according to the same source.
The governorate added that the city's infrastructure had not suffered any damage as a result of the recent attacks.
On Thursday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced it had carried out a new wave of strikes on Iranian military targets, using precision aircraft and munitions.
On June 18, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding that included a cessation of military operations and the start of negotiations to reach a broader agreement.
But on July 8, US President Donald Trump announced the end of the interim agreement, following the targeting of three ships in the Strait of Hormuz, prompting Washington to resume its strikes inside Iran, amid escalating Iranian responses in the region.
Washington demands guarantees of freedom and security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, while Tehran insists on imposing a mechanism to regulate the passage of ships through the strategic waterway, exacerbating fears of disruption to oil and gas exports from the region.
