Chairman of the Executive Committee for the Acceleration of Special Autonomy Development in Papua, Velix Vernando Wanggai, outlined four focuses for accelerating development in Southwest Papua, including strengthening regulations, investment, natural resource management, and politics and governance.
In a meeting with local government and stakeholders in Southwest Papua on Saturday, Velix stated that the province holds a crucial geo-economic and geo-strategic position, supported by its natural resource potential and community cohesion.
"Southwest Papua has resources, strong figures, community cohesion, and a crucial geoeconomic and geostrategic position. Therefore, this province is a choice for integrated development," he said.
He explained that the first cluster focuses on strengthening regulations by aligning various policies to better suit Papua's characteristics and needs.
The second cluster focuses on developing creative investment and financing, including plans to establish a Southwest Papua investment forum to connect regional potential with national and international investors and encourage the development of carbon trading.
"We're not just talking about development, but also about how to bring in investments that can create jobs and stimulate the local economy," Velix said.
The third cluster concerns natural resource management, encompassing the mining, fisheries, forestry, maritime, and land sectors, to provide greater benefits to the Papuan people through the alignment of central and regional authorities.
Meanwhile, the fourth cluster covers the fields of politics, law, security, and governance, including strengthening the bureaucracy, resolving conflicts, and implementing the Master Plan for the Acceleration of Papuan Development.
In addition to these four clusters, Velix said that human resource development through education and the development of connectivity and economic corridors remain priority programs.
