Tottenham Hotspur continued their big activity in the summer transfer market, after announcing the signing of Italian Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United for a club-record fee.
An agreement was reached between the two Premier League rivals regarding the transfer of the midfielder last Wednesday evening, before the deal was officially announced on Monday.
English reports stated that Tottenham would pay an initial sum of £92.5 million ($123.4 million), plus £7.5 million in additional incentives.
Tonali told Tottenham's official website: "I'm very happy to be here. When I arrived at the club today, I felt great. Some people talked about four or five clubs being interested, but for me there was only one."
He added, "I spoke with the coach for about two hours about the club, the fans, the stadium, and the way we play. It was like magic, because I immediately realized that I should sign for Tottenham."
The Italian international player confirmed: "I have played against Tottenham several times, and I have always found a great atmosphere from a special fanbase. I can't wait for the season to start."
The 26-year-old moved to Newcastle in the summer of 2023 from Milan, where the Italian international made 79 appearances for the Magpies, scoring five goals and providing four assists.
Tottenham continued their massive spending spree this summer. After signing Matheus Fernandes from West Ham United for £90 million, they brought in Dutch international defender Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton in a deal worth around £50 million, before today signing Tonali in anoLther huge deal.
