US President Donald Trump claimed on Thursday that Iran had agreed to almost everything Washington had asked for during negotiations with the United States.
"I think they agreed to almost everything we asked for," Trump said in an interview with CNBC.
Trump indicated that negotiations with Tehran are still ongoing.
He added: "Iran will buy corn, wheat and other things from America with the frozen funds," stressing that "what happened with Iran was a campaign to disarm it of its nuclear weapons, not a war in the traditional sense."
He continued: "I was the best American president in the history of Israel, and they acknowledge that."
Trump concluded by saying, "The released Iranian oil revenues are earmarked for purchasing food, not for rebuilding the Iranian military."
Indirect technical talks between US and Iranian officials, through intermediaries, have begun in Doha, with the aim of reducing the level of military escalation between the two sides.
These diplomatic efforts also aim to build on the memorandum of understanding signed in the middle of last month, which came after a period of extreme tension and exchanges of fire, in preparation for opening channels of negotiation and finding a comprehensive settlement to the ongoing war in the region.
