On Tuesday, the UAE inaugurated the first "Etihad Rail" passenger train service, from Fujairah station to Mohammed bin Zayed station in Abu Dhabi, amid the presence of a number of passengers who witnessed the launch of the new service.
The station witnessed a festive atmosphere, as some passengers raised Emirati flags and wore scarves bearing the colors of the flag, while others were keen to take commemorative photos before boarding the train.
As the first trip began, passengers expressed their happiness at participating in this occasion, stressing that the operation of the passenger train service represents a new step in the transportation system within the country, and a transformation in the methods of transportation between the Emirates.
A number of families, children, visitors and residents of different nationalities also came to the station, exchanging congratulations and taking pictures in front of the train, in an atmosphere dominated by feelings of pride and interest in this new experience.
Some passengers said they booked their seats on the first day of operation because they wanted to experience the first trip and considered it a remarkable event in the transport and infrastructure sector, while many documented their participation through photos and videos on social media platforms.
It is noted that the “Etihad Rail” project extends over 1,200 kilometers and connects all the emirates of the country, within a strategic vision aimed at diversifying means of transport and supporting environmental sustainability.
