Young Indonesian men's singles player Moh. Zaki Ubaidillah is aiming for a place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Japan Open after being awarded a spot on the reserve list for the BWF World Tour Super 750 tournament.
"Yes, the target is to enter the top eight," said Ubed when met at the PBSI Cipayung National Training.
But before that, Ubed realized his journey wouldn't be easy. In the first round, he would face Danish representative Rasmus Gemke.
"We have to focus on the first match first, it won't be easy. After that, if we win, we could potentially face Antonsen (Anders Antonsen) or Toma Junior Popov (Toma Junior Popov)," he added.
Previously, Ubed admitted he wasn't expecting much of a place in the main draw of the Japan Open due to his second-place reserve position. However, a chance opened up after several players withdrew from the tournament, which will take place in Tokyo, Japan, from July 14-19.
"Yes, actually, because previously there were two reserves. I saw yesterday, last week Prannoy (HS Prannoy) withdrew , and then there was Viktor (Axelsen) who withdrew yesterday . Yes, maybe it was luck at the Japan Open," said Ubed.
