Russian Pavel Graudin won his country's first medal at the World Fencing Championships currently being held in Hong Kong, by winning the gold medal in the sabre competition.
Pavel Graudin succeeded in defeating South Korean Do Kyung-don by a score of (15-points) in the final match that brought them together on Monday.
Graudin became the first Russian world champion in the sabre discipline since 2015, when his compatriot Alexey Yakimenko won the title.
Graudin, 19, thus gifted Russia its first World Championship gold medal, the first medal since the introduction of Russian national symbols to the world stage in this sport.
It is worth noting that the International Fencing Federation lifted all restrictions imposed on Russian athletes last June.
