The relationship between FIFA President Gianni Infantino and US President Donald Trump is facing increasing political scrutiny.
According to a report by The Athletic, Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin, a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, demanded that the FIFA president provide detailed documents and information regarding his contacts with the US administration and disclose all forms of benefits or advantages that may have been provided to Trump, members of his administration, or entities associated with them, including financial transfers, gifts, awards, and appearances at public events.
He also requested access to the visitor logs of FIFA's offices in Miami and New York.
The request is not limited to documents only, as Raskin also called on Infantino to appear before the House Judiciary Committee to answer questions about the nature of the relationship between FIFA and the Trump administration, in light of allegations of reciprocal favors that sparked widespread controversy during the 2026 World Cup.
This move comes after a series of criticisms leveled at FIFA during the 2026 World Cup, including the controversy over ticket prices, the close relationship between Infantino and Trump, as well as accusations of political interference in some matters related to the tournament, accusations which FIFA has repeatedly denied.
Infantino recently responded to critics of the 2026 World Cup, asserting that the tournament was an organizational and security success, and urging critics to "reflect, pray, smile and watch football" instead of being preoccupied with what he described as "hatred and rumors."
